The LT8640EU is a high power synchronous DC-DC converter with a step-down configuration optimized for automotive applications. A unique architecture combines high efficiency with compact size and flexible configurability. The LT8640EU is the first automotive DC-DC step-down converter in its class to offer 6A continuous current drive, while providing good efficiency over a wide output current range.
The LT8640EU utilizes a synchronous-rectifier buck architecture. It features two 1μF components on the input for soft-start and/or average current limiting. Two 5A/20V power switches are incorporated along with a current sense resistor and a voltage sense resistor. The LT8640EU produces adjustable output voltage from 1.0V to 28V. Output voltage accuracy is typically ±2% over-temperature and load with an exceptionally clean output.
The LT8640EU uses a 3A/32V external FET (or an integrated MOSFET for small packages and low power applications) for high efficiency operation. It has an internally adjustable preset frequency and dynamic VOUT range of 17V to 90V. Additionally, it includes internal over-temperature, over-current, and output under-voltage protection circuitry, enabling the LT8640EU to operate in a wide variety of automotive power applications.
The LT8640EU is offered in a wide range of packages including TDFN-10 (1.63mm x 2.65mm) and HTSSOP-16 (2.05mm x 4.90mm). The LT8640EU also features a power-good pin (PGOOD) to indicate output status.
