The LT8616IFE#PBF is a primary side regulation and Bi-directional synchronous rectification controller specially designed to meet the energy efficiency or high isolation voltage requirements of the isolated DC-DC converter applications such as isolated ac-dc supplies, isolated offline adapter, isolated high-voltage module, etc. The LT8616IFE#PBF combines a high-performance, voltage-mode control core, non-overlap primary switch controller, primary-side synchronous rectification and Bi-directional Rectification Control (BRC) providing the necessary functions to achieve accurate and sufficient power delivery across the isolation barrier while preventing sub-harmonic oscillation. The LT8616IFE#PBF also provides shorter start-up time, improved performance, and higher efficiency compared to conventional single-ended primary-inductor converter (SEPIC) or flyback topologies.

The LT8616IFE#PBF is a pre-built integrated circuit for a DC–DC switching regulator, which offers higher efficiency, lower power loss and longer lifetime. This device is primarily integrated with an adjustable voltage regulator and optimum synchronization circuit. The LT8616IFE#PBF also features an adjustable power saving function and wide operating temperature range. The LT8616IFE#PBF is capable of regulating the output voltage from 0.6V up to 10V. As the input voltage can range from 2V to 17V, it is suitable for high voltage and low current applications.

The LT8616IFE#PBF has several key features, including integrated Non-overlap Primary Switch Controller (NPSC), Primary-side Synchronous Rectification (PSSR), External Clock Synchronization (ECS), Frequency Synchronization, Wide-range Output Adjustment, and Bi-directional Rectification Control (BDC). The primary function of the LT8616IFE#PBF is to control the synchronization between the internal oscillator and the secondary-side transformer. The internal oscillator is adjusted to achieve the desired output voltage and current through the BDC feature.

When the input voltage is above a certain level, the integrated NPSC activates the PSSR circuit, which in turn forces the transformer’s secondary-side FET to stay close, improving efficiency and preventing sub-harmonic oscillation. The low voltage frequency synchronization feature enables the LT8616IFE#PBF to operate at the exact frequency of the secondary-side transformer, thus providing higher stability and accuracy.

The wide-range output adjustment feature allows the user to set the desired output voltage without any circuit modifications. The output voltage can be adjusted from 0.6V to 10V. The output voltage is constantly monitored by the current-mode control loop and when it deviates more than 5%, the voltage-loop control circuit activates the adjustment algorithm to bring it back to the specified level.

The LT8616IFE#PBF is suitable for the dc-dc converters where power efficiency and low power losses are the primary concern. The integrated non-overlap primary switch controller provides improved efficiency in combination with the BRC feature, while the primary-side synchronous rectification further enhances the power efficiency of the converter. The external clock synchronization feature ensures that the output voltage is precisely regulated and the wide-range output adjustment feature allows the user to configure the output without having to make any circuit modifications.
