It uses a peak current mode control method, wherein the current in the power switch is sensed directly and compared to a fixed frequency triangular waveform reference. When the sense current reaches the peak of the reference waveform, the switch is turning off (see Figure 1).

A feedback voltage is applied to the error amplifier input and compared with a reference voltage to determine the power switch on-time. The current-limit comparator senses the inductor current, and it is compared to the reference current limit level. The error amplifier can also be used to set the maximum switch on-time for output overvoltage protection.The LT8710EFE#PBF has an adjustable input undervoltage lockout to enhance the efficiency of light-load operation. The current-mode control loop also includes a peak current limit (Ipeak) that can be used to set the current level at which the power switch turns off. The IP voltage control pin allows direct control of the peak current limit.
