Working Principle
The LTC 4085EDE-3#PBF is an autonomous single-cell lithium-ion battery charger designed with a single stage current-limit regulation loop. The charge current is determined by the voltage on the PROG pin. The charger also features an optional output voltage that is adjustable using external resistors. The charger regulates the charge current limit based on the battery voltage and the selected charge current. The charger includes circuitry to protect the battery from overcharging, excessive temperature, and short-circuiting. The thermal control circuit regulates the charge current to ensure proper operation within a safe temperature range.
The charger also features a power good signal, PROG signal, and two overvoltage/overcurrent flags (OVL and OVP) that can be used to detect abnormal conditions and protect the battery from charging too rapidly. Additionally, the battery voltage can be monitored with the VBAT signal, while the input current is monitored by the IIN signal.
