The MAX11300GCM+ is a special purpose data acquisition IC that combines a voltage reference, one- or two-channel, 24-bit sigma-delta analog-to-digital converter (ADC), four-channel digital-to-analog converter (DAC), and temperature sensor in a single package. This device is designed to convert analog signals into digital values allowing the user to perform precise data acquisition and analysis.
The MAX11300GCM+ is an ideal choice for embedded applications that require precise, low power data conversion in harsh, small-footprint environments. This automotive-grade device features excellent linearity, low power consumption, accurate temperature measurements from -40°C to 150°C and includes onboard 12-bit SPI flash memory for storing configuration settings and calibration data.
The device includes an on-board embedded ARM Cortex-M4 MCU for controlling the data conversion process and executing software algorithms. The on-chip peripheral features include GPIOs for configuring the ADC and DAC output, I2C interface, and SPI serial interface. The MAX11300GCM+ is supported by SPI Slave and I2C Slave software which allow configuration data to be read and written over the serial interface.
The ADC measures the input signal, in both single-ended or differential input modes, with 24-bit resolution and incorporates an onboard gain stage. The gain stage can be selected to provide optimal performance, allowing a maximum input voltage range as high as 5V. Data is stored in a 24-bit data register, which can be read via SPI or I2C interfacing.
The device features four unipolar 16-bit DACs. These can be configured with a common reference voltage, and the value programmed into each DAC determines the output voltage. The DACs are designed to eliminate glitches or undershoot within the specified dynamic range.
The on-chip temperature sensor is a high-precision analog temperature sensor which measures the temperature range from -40°C to 150°C. Temperature data is stored in a 10-bit register, which can be read through the serial interface. The temperature data is calibrated using an offset and linearity correction; ground calibration points are accessible through the SPI and I2C interfaces.
The MAX11300GCM+ is an ideal solution for applications where low power consumption, excellent linearity and precise data conversion is required. The on-chip MCU allows for flexibility in the design, making it easy to incorporate custom software algorithms, and the 12-bit on-chip SPI flash memory provides the capability for storing configuration settings and calibration data.
