The MAX1202ACPP is a high-speed, single-channel, analog-to-digital (A/D) converter integrated circuit that is part of the family of data acquisition products from Maxim Integrated. The IC is capable of converting an analog input voltage into a 10-bit digital code with a 500-Ksps (kilo-samples per second) conversion rate. This IC can handle input voltages up to its supply voltage of 5V, making it suitable for a wide range of applications in measurement, control and communications systems.
The MAX1202ACPP has two operating modes namely single-ended, and differential-ended input ranges. In the single-ended mode, the IC accepts an input voltage between 0 and 5V. On the other hand, the differential-ended mode accepts a voltage range between -2.5V and 2.5V. The device provides a 10- bit resolution output corresponding to the input voltage. Furthermore, the device also provides an adjustable reference voltage for the input signals.
The IC contains an on-chip reference voltage generator, a low-powered 10-bit successive-approximation analog-to-digital converter, a differential active-low logic output and an output data latch. The A/D converter acts as a voltage-controlled current source and has a successive approximation register (SAR) which stores the digital code and a differential comparator with hysteresis to compare the input voltage with the reference voltage. The 10-bit binary output data is latched at the rising edge of the conversion clock.
The MAX1202ACPP is ideal for applications such as temperature measurement, power supply regulation, process control, and analog-to-digital signal conversion. It can be used for both portable and fixed-location applications due to its low-power consumption making it suitable for battery-operated applications. The MAX1202ACPP is a versatile A/D converter with many features that make it well suited for data acquisition and system control.
The device is available in three packages. A small 8-pin narrow plastic SOIC package, a 12-pin wide body SOIC and an 8-pin DW package which has a smaller size and a lower profile.
