Modern industrial and commercial operations are increasingly reliant on sophisticated electronics and programming to control their systems and processes. To enable effective control of these systems, data acquisition hardware and software is used to acquire, store, analyse and report data for important processes. The MAX1257BETM+ is a high performance, 14-bit precision voltage-controlled data acquisition module that has multiple applications in many industries.
The MAX1257BETM+ is a multi-output, simultaneous sampling and gain-selecting data acquisition module that can be used to measure multiple channels of analog-to-digital input simultaneously. It currently supports up to eleven channels at 12-bit resolution, when interfaced with the five-wire TTL or LVDS protocol, and two channels at 14-bit resolution when interfaced with RS-485 or SPI protocols.
The module incorporates a high-performance ADC with 12-bit (for five-wire) or 14-bit (for RS-485, SPI) resolution. The module is powered by five-volt power supply and features two adjustable gain ranges (-1 to +1 and -2 to +2 Volts respectively). The module requires a 19.2 MHz clock to set the sampling rate, and supports repetition rates up to 60 kHz, with a minimum channel acquisition latency of only 66 μs and up to 100 kHz repetition rates (single-channel mode).
The MAX1257BETM+ provides precision analog-to-digital conversion with low noise and distortion, and supports the full range of input signals from -Vmax to +Vmax where Vmax is the peak-to-peak swing of the analog signal. It provides high input impedance, fast settling, and excellent linearity for applied signal in the range of +/-3.3 volts. The module also has a built-in programmable gain selectable reference voltage of 0 to +3.3 volts.
The MAX1257BETM+ has applications across many industries, ranging from automotive to medical, consumer electronics, process control and aerospace. In automotive applications, it can be used to monitor and control engine speed, air/fuel mixture, battery voltage levels and engine sensors. In medical applications, the module can be used to monitor patient vital signals such as heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation and blood pressure.
In consumer electronics, the module can be used to monitor audio signals in digital media players, audio amplifiers and noise cancellation systems. In process control systems, it can be used to monitor the output from a range of input devices, from temperature sensors to photo resistors and accelerometers. Finally, in aerospace applications, the module can be used in Flight Computers, guidance and navigation systems.
