The MAX128BCAI is a versatile 10-bit, high-speed analog-to-digital converter (ADC) with a wide range of features, including differential inputs, 12-bit resolution and synchronization control. The device is designed for use in demanding applications in process control, test and measurement, industrial control, automotive and communication equipment.

The ADC is divided into two main sections - the Analog Front End (AFE) and Digital Signal Processor (DSP). The AFE contains an analog amplifier and an analog-to-digital converter, providing the input signal with amplification. The DSP contains the digital signal processor and memory, responsible for the control and the output data processing.

The MAX128BCAI utilizes a post-scaling integrated ADC (ISADC). This allows various gain scales on the input signal. The ADC has adjustable gain, offset control, and programmable clock source control. The maximum sample rate is 35Msps. Its data output formats are 8-bit x 16-bit synchronous packet and 10-bit x 16-bit asynchronous packet.

The MAX128BCAI features a digital input for synchronizing the output data, multiple interleaving options, and an output third-order interpolator for improved signal-to-quantization (SQR) noise performance. The output interpolator utilizes the interpolation filter algorithm to improve dynamic performance and enable higher signal resolution. The analog input to MAX128BCAI is single-ended or differential. For differential signals, the ADC common mode voltage (VCM) and any offset can be adjusted to acquire signals with the desired dynamic range. The input signal range is -5V to +5V. The differential inputs have adjustable common mode ranges of -2.5V to +2.5V. The input amplifiers are gain selectable and have a maximum gain of 23 dB.

The MAX128BCAI has an onboard reference voltage that is externally adjustable. The reference range is 0.5 V to 5V. The analog input of the device can be configured for either AC coupling or for DC coupling. The AC coupling configuration is used for signal bandwidths up to around 100 kHz.

The device has an on-chip temperature sensor that can be used to monitor the temperature of the board. An external temperature sensor can be connected to a dedicated input.
