The MAX1321ECM+ is an Analog to Digital Converter (ADC). It is suitable for a variety of precision sampling applications wherein the high-accuracy and low-moderate-speed requirements are balanced. This ADC has the best combination of features, performance and economy for most low-moderately-speed, precision applications.

The MAX1321ECM+ is a pipelined SAR ADC that provides an extremely fast interface and accurate, deterministic conversion with a precision of up to 19 bits (18 bits at sample speeds up to 1 MSPS). The ADC is designed to give maximum flexibility to the user with configurable input ranges, functions and settings to optimize performance. Various throughput rate settings levels support sample rates up to 1 MSPS.

The MAX1321ECM+ ADC has an on-chip voltage reference, reference buffers, automatic gain error correction, and conversion accuracy with temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C. The full-scale input range can be selected from 2.0V, 1.0V or 0.5V. The maximum operating temperature is +85°C. The CMOS design of the ADC ensures low power consumption of 1mW.

The MAX1321ECM+ ADC features a sequential conversion process which multiplexes the voltage inputs and send them through an amplifier and comparator. The comparator compares the amplified input signal with a digital ramp reference. The successive approximation occurs when the comparator compares each successive code bit and adjusts the necessary bits until the correct digital code is generated. The ADC then validates the data with digital logic and passes the final digital result onto the data acceptance.

The output data is processed by an internal register which can be tested using a calibration command. The calibration data is then used to adjust the offset and gain of the ADC. Once the calibration process is complete, the data is sent to the results register. The results register stores the data which is in a 2\'s complement format and remaps the data from the two MSBs of the ADC.

The MAX1321ECM+ has a variety of application areas. These include medical imaging, power measurement, data acquisition, motor control, and motor control systems. The ADC is also suitable for precision sampling applications such as audio, digital signal processing, instrumentation, digital imaging, industrial automation, and more.
