This application field converts the analog voltage signals into a digital word which can be transmitted, manipulated and/or used for further processing. The MAX134EPL+ combines a high performance, low power 14-bit successive approximation register (SAR) ADC with an 8-bit digital-to-analog converter (DAC). Additionally, it is equipped with two high speed general-purpose counters.

The device features a low-power, low-voltage design that is fast, accurate and reliable. The ADC consumes only 8.2 mW when sampling at a 500 kHz rate and it operates from a single +5 V supply. The ADC core features a 10-bit data-pipeline SAR that guarantees binary accuracy. It also includes a 10-bit a/d converter with internal references, comparator, and range selectable counter register.

The DAC in this application field is an 8-bit digital-to-analog converter with an output range of 0 to 5 V. The internal reference offers an electrolytic-film-based voltage divider. This offers good accuracy, low power consumption and high immunity to noise.

It also includes two general purpose counters, which allow a wide range of control and timing functions. The counters can count up to 16 bits and feature multiple functions such as Input Capture, Output Compare and Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Control.

The maximum sampling rate for this device is 500 kHz. The maximum input voltage range is ±5V and the resolution of the ADC is 14-bit differential. It has a maximum output voltage range of ±5V and a resolution of 8-bit differential. It offers a fast settling time at <20µs and low dc offset & drift at -100µV/°C.
