The MAX15026DATD+T is a dual voltage-mode step-down controller with integrated power MOSFETs, developed by Maxim Integrated. It is categorized as a Power Management IC (PMIC) and more specifically as a Voltage Regulator, DC DC Switching Controller. This device is made for high current power delivery, with a low number of components, for applications such as computing, automotive and ultra-low noise adaptive voltage regulation systems.

The main feature of the MAX15026DATD+T is its ability to fiercely regulate input voltage disturbances. The proprietary Adaptive Gate-Drive technology allows the device to immediately adapt and react to the changes in input voltage, allowing high precision output voltage regulation and overall improved performance under various conditions, by both optimizing input and output power efficacy. The device is capable of controlling two separate continuous, current-fed outputs with no minimum voltage differences.

The MAX150 26DATD+T contains a Built-in Power MOSFET driver, capable of switching currents at up to 40A max (limited by the power stage mounted to the device) and an integrated Gate Driver with a Maximum Gate Charge 200nC. Furthermore, the Input and Output Voltage ranges of the device are 2.5V - 28V, making the devide suitable in multiple applications, from large Computers, to Car audio systems, or even industrial machinery.

The device’s working principle is simple; when it is enabled by the EN pin, both phase outputs begin to switch at a fixed frequency (17.3kHz, as set by the CTRL pin). The input voltage is sensed by the internal amplifier and dictated to the comparator, compared with the output voltage, which is being sensed by the other internal amplifier. The comparator ‘decides’ based on the feedback given and adjusts the power delivery by turning off the switch (gate) driver just before the voltage reaches its desired point, by using the SGND circuit, the On-Time (T_ON) is adjusted when the load current raises, so that the output voltage remain the same, even with varying load.

The device offers several protection features, including: Over-Temperature shutdown (160°C Thermal shutdown), Current limit (programmable Peak Current Limit, or PFM) as well as short-circuit protection and last but not least, Adaptive voltage positioning (AVP) for maximum conversion efficiency, by optimising output voltage even at low supply voltage or during light load conditions.
