MAX1524EUT is a DC-DC switching controller IC in the PMIC--Voltage Regulators--DC DC Switching Controllers family. It is a highly integrated, system-level power management solution targeting battery-powered, energy-sensitive applications. It integrates advanced features like real-time load-line compensation, input voltage tracking and output voltage transformer-style (TVS) as well as sleep-mode clock synchronization to reduce overall system power consumption. Application FieldThe MAX1524EUT is suitable for applications such as cellular phones, digital cameras, portable computing, and other portable devices. It can be used in the power system infrastructure where low operating costs, high efficiency, and short run time are desired. Moreover, it offers efficient linear regulation with an improved accuracy of ±3% across temperatures.Working PrincipleThe MAX1524EUT works on a pulse width modulation (PWM) control architecture. The IC operates in the “Power Save” mode, where the conductors draw power only when necessary, and the IC continuously monitors the load current and adjusts the output voltage accordingly. This reduces power consumption and helps to optimize the power system for lowest cost and highest efficiency. The IC also enables the use of sleep-mode clock synchronization, which reduces the power consumption of sleep mode operations as well as improves system efficiency. The IC also works on a dynamic load line compensation feature, where the output voltage is adjusted to match the output voltage “derating” to the varying line voltage conditions. This helps the system to maintain a higher efficiency level even under conditions of high line and load transients.The IC also employs a high voltage start-up scheme, where it will start up the output voltage at a defined level, then track the line voltage at an appropriate current limit and thus reduce start-up power consumption.The integrated TVS module also controls output voltage levels, to protect the system against reverse currents, as well as providing load current accuracy even during heavy load transients.The IC also provides a low-power shutdown feature, which enables the system to completely shut down when required, while still keeping the chip active so that the system can resume operation as needed.The MAX1524EUT thus provides a highly integrated, system-level power management solution for battery-powered, energy-sensitive applications. It provides efficient linear regulation with improved accuracy levels, as well as low-power operation in sleep and shutdown modes. It is capable of dynamically adjusting the output voltage based on varying line voltage conditions and employs a high voltage start-up scheme to reduce start-up power consumption.
