MAX155ACWI+ Application Field and Working Principle

The MAX155ACWI+ is a high precision, low-cost ADC, or Analog to Digital Converter. It is a monolithic, double-side band (DSB) three-state (3S) converter created using bipolar process technology. It is capable of up to 16 bit precision (10 to 16 bits) on input signals of up to +2.5V. This is an ideal analog-to-digital converter for applications that require accurate digitization of small signals such as medical instrumentation systems and other low-power data acquisition systems.In general, the working principles of an ADC can be divided into two parts: analog and digital. The analog part involves the conversion of the input signal into a digital representation, while the digital part determines the range of values that the output signal can represent. The MAX155ACWI+ ADC uses a capacitor based charge-redistribution DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter). It is a two-stage conversion process consists of a sample-and-hold (S/H) stage and a successive approximation register (SAR) stage. First, the analog input signal is converted into a digital representation at the S/H stage through a series of capacitors. In this process, the analog signal is represented by a series of charges on the capacitors. These charges are then compared to a reference voltage at the SAR stage. The comparison is done by a comparator and the result of the comparison is the digital output of the ADC.The MAX155ACWI+ offers excellent performance features such as the ability to support high-speed conversion of up to 50msps and very low power consumption of only 622mW. It also features a very low input offset of only ±2µV, ensuring highly accurate results. In addition, it is designed with a full-scale input range of +2.5V and incorporates power-down and digital forcing sense modes.
