The MAX16930ATLT/V+T is a synchronous, step-down DC/DC switchingcontroller from the PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit)family that belongs to the Voltage Regulator category. It has anintegrated charge pump that serves to generate the required highVIN supply.
This device specifically provides constant frequency, currentmode synchronous step-down DC/DC switching controller with integratedcharge pump and spread spectrum capability. The device featuresprogrammable soft-start and over-voltage protection (OVP). TheMAX16930ATLT/V+T is operated under a wide input voltage range of2.5V to 35V.
The device is designed to drive an N-channel external FETswitching MOSFET. It integrates a programmable, current-mode PWMcontroller and a driver stage. The feature of spread spectrumtechnique lowers the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) emissionsby reducing the switching frequency. The frequency range of thedevice is adjustable from 200kHz to 1.5MHz.
The current-mode control of the MAX16930ATLT/V+T enable closedloop control of the output voltage. This is done by programming thereference voltage that sets the output voltage by means of anexternal resistor divider. It also provides frequency foldback forlight-load operation and transient response which optimizes theoutput ripple and transient response. The MAX16930ATLT/V+T isprovided with integrated under-voltage lockout (UVLO), soft-start, andpower-good signal.
The device also has an under-voltage lockout pin. Theunder-voltage lockout (invUVP) is used to detect the output voltagelevel. When the device is actively switching, the under voltageprotection monitor senses this voltage and controls the RISET to setthe output voltage.
Also included in the MAX16930ATLT/V+T is a programmablesoft-start feature. This feature limits the in-rush current andensures a longer life for the power supply. During start-up, thesoft-start feature limits the power dissipation and prevents overvolting the output. Furthermore, the device also has a power-goodsignal pin. This pin is utilized for monitoring the output voltagein order to know when the proper load condition is met.
The MAX16930ATTL/V+Tt has a wide range of applications. It’sprimarily used as a main supply controller for notebook, tablet, andultra mobile PCs. Additionally, it is designed to support audio, SSDs,microcontroller cores, and other non-standby power managementapplications.
