Introduction

Control and Working Principle

The MAX1937EEI+ features a synchronous Rectified Pulse Width Modulation (SRPWM) architecture that provides excellent conversion efficiency over a wide input voltage and output voltage range. In this architecture, the inductor current and output voltage are continuously monitored to ensure proper operation. When the input voltage is applied to the IC, it is first rectified, filtered and compared with the internal reference to produce a feedback signal. This signal is then compared with the internal oscillator signal to produce the control signal for the power stage. The control signal is then used to switch the internal transistors on and off accordingly. When the voltage across the inductor reaches the switching current, the switching circuit is disabled and the current is forced to flow through an external diode. This causes the inductor current to ramp down slowly to the output voltage. When the output voltage drops below the regulation level, the PWM circuit restarts and the process repeats.
