MAX196BEAI

The MAX196BEAI is a kind of special purpose data acquisition device, usually referred to as an ADC/DAC super combo. It combines dual 10-bit ΔΣ ADCs, dual 10-bit digital-to-analog converters (DACs), two buffered voltage reference output ports, two programmable gain amplifier inputs, and one bi-directional bidirectional digital input/output port into a single package.

The basic application field of the MAX196BEAI is that of industrial, automotive, and medical applications, where multiple digitized signal inputs or outputs are needed in a single, accurate, and reliable package. The device can also be used to acquire and control analog signals in any number of applications where signals need to be digitized, processed, and reconstructed again in the analog domain.

In terms of working principle, the MAX196BEAI takes in, or outputs, up to 12-bits of resolution for each of its two 10-bit DACs, and two 10-bit ADCs. Each of the two 10-bit DACs is controlled by a programmable register, which can be written and read from a serial port. The two 10-bit ADCs convert the data from either a digital or analog input respectively.

The data output from both the 10-bit DACs and 10-bit ADCs are clocked, sampled and filtered by the MAX196BEAI’s dedicated filter circuitry in order to provide a cleaner and more accurate digital output. The device also has an internal temperature sensor capable of measuring external temperatures up to 135°C (275°F).

The device also features a built-in multiplexer to select either a single A/D or D/A channel and an adjustable reference voltage, allowing a wide range of applications. The integrated Voltage Reference and Buffer Output circuit also allows for improved resolution and accuracy when measuring multiple voltage levels.

The device allows users to quickly and accurately acquire and process signals, generate and control up to 12-bit resolution, and select multiple input/output channels with a single package. In addition, it is low-power and suitable for applications that require battery operation. Its many features and its integration of numerous functions in one package make it well-suited for data acquisition, DSP, and industrial control applications.
