MAX3096EPE Application Field and Working Principle

MAX3096EPE is a member of this family and it is also a standard low-power differential line driver, receiver and transceiver for both 3.3V and 5V interface application. Application Field

MAX3096EPE accepts single ended TTL/CMOS input data signals and translates them into balanced differential signals for data transmission over 60 to 120Ω twisted pair cables. Its adjustable hysteresis prevents indeterminate state of outputs when input transition rapidly. With its enhanced ESD withstand capability, MAX3096EPE is optimized for both challenging EMC environment and high-noise environment.

MAX3096EPE can be used in many applications such as telecom and industrial automation where it supports RS-485, RS-422 and other point-to-point and multi-drop field bus and network. Its applications include personal computers, super computers, printer interface, factory automation and measurement to achieve fewer system components, superior noise isolation and lower power consumption.

Working Principle

MAX3096EPE provides an integrated differential line driver, receiver and transceiver for both 3.3V and 5V interface. A control input allows the device to work in either driver, receiver or transceiver mode selected by three external pins. An adjustable precision hysteresis prevents the receiver from indeterminate state when input transition rapidly.

The device includes both driver and receiver and the driver provides an output with adjustable bias current for optimum system performance. The outputs have an open collector which allows users to directly drive long lines and adjust the load without external terminal resistors. The differential receiver inputs are terminated with adjustable precision resistor and the device is designed to reduce EMI/RFI by slew rate control.

MAX3096EPE is designed to operate with a single supply of 3V to 5.5V. It is also designed to offer a very low power dissipation amounting to 135mW at a 5V supply voltage. It has a TTL/CMOS compatible input and its high immunity to ESD tends to further increase its reliability in industrial and communication applications.
