MAX3232CDWG4 is a 3.0V to 5.5V level translator, driver and receiver, developed by Maxim Integrated. It combines two lines of low-voltage and high-voltage RS-232 transceivers, to provide design engineers with a convenient and simple solution to the challenges they face when designing multiport, mixed-voltage RS-232 systems. With its low-power consumption, low voltage, and small size, it is ideal for applications such as bar code readers, PDAs, modems, point-of-sale terminals, handheld PCs, and 3V to 5V logic interface. MAX3232CDWG4 can provide maximum signal transmission distances up to three hundred fifty feet, and support data rates up to 1.5Kbps.

The MAX3232CDWG4 operates from a single 3V-5.5V supply and fully supports RS-232 transmitters and receivers at data rates up to 1.5Kbps. This makes it suitable for a wide range of low-speed, short-range serial devices. In addition, the MAX3232CDWG4 can be used to solve the problem of line-termination and signal swapping between two devices operating as a sender and receiver. This ease of operation makes it a great choice for mobile applications, and any designs requiring low-power consumption, high data rate and low-voltage operation.

The MAX3232CDWG4 is based on the differential Manchester code, which is a common data-transmission scheme that uses a pair of signals to transmit one bit of data.
