1. Describe

MAX3232CSE Transceivers Features a proprietary low dropout transmitter output stage True RS-232 performance from 3.0V to 5.5V Provides dual charge pumps. The device only needs Four small 0.1µF external charge pump capacitors. this Guaranteed for MAX3222, MAX3232, and MAX3241 Operates at 120kbps data rate while maintaining RS-232 output level. The MAX3237 is guaranteed to operate on data 250kbps and 1Mbps in normal operating mode MegaBaud™ mode of operation. The MAX3222/MAX3232 have 2 receivers and 2 drivers. The MAX3222 and MAX3232 are pin, package, and functionally compatible with the industry-standard MAX242 and MAX232, respectively. The MAX3241 has 5 receivers and 3 drivers, while The MAX3237 has 3 receivers and 5 drivers. Receiver R1 (MAX3237/MAX3241) and R2 (MAX3241) have additional output other than standard output. these additional Output is always active, allowing external devices No monitoring of forward-biased protection diodes required Circuits that may have completely removed VCC. The MAX3222, MAX3232, and MAX3241 can be used for Space-saving TSSOP and SSOP packaging and operation Temperature is -40°C to +85°C or 0°C to 70°C.

6. Application Information

    1. Capacitor selection

        The type of capacitor used for C1–C4 is not critical for proper operation; polarized or non-polarized capacitors can be used. The charge pump requires a 0.1µF capacitor for 3.3V operation. Increasing the capacitor value (for example, by a factor of 2) reduces the ripple output of the transmitter and reduces power consumption slightly. C2, C3, and C4 can be increased without changing the value of C1. However, do not increase C1 without increasing the value of C2, C3 and C4 to maintain the proper ratio (C1 to other capacitors). When using the minimum required capacitance value, make sure that the capacitance value does not degrade excessively with temperature. When in doubt, use a capacitor with a higher nominal value. The equivalent series resistance (ESR) of a capacitor typically rises at low temperatures, and it affects the amount of ripple on V+ and V-.

    2. Power decoupling

        In most cases, a 0.1µF bypass capacitor is sufficient. In applications sensitive to power supply noise, decouple VCC to ground with a capacitor of the same value as charge pump capacitor C1. Connect bypass capacitors as close to the IC as possible.

    3. Mouse drive capability

        The MAX3241 is designed to power a serial mouse while operating from a low-voltage power supply. It has been tested by leading mouse brands from manufacturers like Microsoft and Logitech. The MAX3241 successfully drove all tested serial mice and met their respective current and voltage requirements.
