The MAX3316CAE+ is an integrated transceiver for high-speed data communications that bridges between a logic level interface with an industry-standard serial medium. It provides an optimized solution for the low-speed serial interface. The device utilizes low power consumption and high performance to achieve industry-leading data transmission performance of up to 20 Mbps over twisted-pair cable and an operating voltage range from 3.3V to 5.5V. The MAX3316CAE+ provides differential transmit and receive data signals that reduce noise components on the differential lines and enable high data link speeds over a long distance connection.
Application Field

Working Principle
The MAX3316CAE+ combines a transformer, suppression components and a differential transceiver IC into a single package. The transformer provides signals from one set of wires to another, can offer EMI/RFI protection, and reduces EMI/RFI noise on differential transmission lines. The built-in transformer isolates the device from potentially noisy and hazardous circuits, which provides a high level of safety for connected equipment and personnel. The device also supports time-division multiplexing (TDM), allowing up to eight MAX3316CAE+s to share the same data line.
The MAX3316CAE+ has two operating modes: a 5 MHz or 10 MHz bit rate mode. In the 5 MHz mode, data rate is up to 20 Mbps (or 0.004 Mbps). In the 10 MHz mode, data rate is up to 40 Mbps (or 0.008 Mbps). The 5 MHz mode is best suited for short communication distances. The 10 MHz mode is ideal for long communication distances. The device supports both 9- and 10-pin connectors, and has built-in FIFO memory that allows it to store up to 128 bytes of data on the transmitter and 128 bytes on the receiver.
The MAX3316CAE+ is designed to operate in temperatures from - 40 to +85 degrees Celsius, making it an ideal choice for many industrial applications. It is equipped with an on-chip temperature sensor for temperature-compensated communications and alerting the user of an over temperature event by setting the dedicated _FAULT pin. The device has a built-in low- power standby mode, allowing it to be placed in a low power state when data communication is not required.
The MAX3316CAE+ has been designed to be backwards compatible with EMI/RFI-sensitive equipment, providing both high-speed communications and high interference immunity. The device also features programmable over-voltage and over-current protection to ensure safe operation. In addition, the MAX3316CAE+ features auto receive data detection, auto baud rate detection and auto de-emphasis.
