The MAX3463CSA+ is an interface based on RS-485 and RS-422 that is mainly used as a driver, receiver, and transceiver. It includes a half-duplex transceiver function which combines one driver and one receiver in the same package. It provides low power consumption, low-cost solution for direct connection to RS-485 networks. The device has an integrated power-on-reset (POR) circuit and an independent enable input for each receiver. As a result, it offers a very low power consumption and provides a complete, integrated solution for direct connection to an RS-485 line.
The key features of MAX3463CSA+ include low power consumption can support up to 1Mb/s data rate, up to 4kV ESD protection, and robust EMI performance, high noise immunity and tight timing control. It supports the Sleep and Wake-up modes, when the transmitter and receiver are disabled, power consumption is reduced to less than 10uW. All the port pins and logic ICs are isolated from the power supply, allowing for noise isolation and enabling fast switching.
The operating principle of MAX3463CSA+ is simple. The low-power driver/transceiver pair is enabled by two separate enable inputs. Driver and receiver are enabled when EN A and EN B are both tied high. When either EN A or EN B are tied low, the driver and receiver are disabled. The driver function is enabled by writing 0\'s to the RXD pin and the receiver is enabled by reading 0\'s from the TXD pin. The receiver is enabled only when the RXD and TXD pins are both high.
