The MAX3465CPD+ is a single differential line driver-receiver transceiver. Developed by Maxim Integrated Products, this transceiver is able to drive a single pair of RS-485/RS-422 transceivers. The MAX3465CPD+ is useful in applications such as data acquisition systems, instrumentation, industrial control and automation, image transfer, fire safety systems, and general-purpose communication links.

In operation, the MAX3465CPD+ acts as a point-to-point, multi-drop network driver-receiver. It has four transmit enable/disable lines and up to four separate buses which enable multiple MAX3465CPD+ chips to be connected for bus or multi-drop communication. The MAX3465CPD+ is optimized for RS-485/RS-422 operation, and provides full-duplex operation with a single driver-receiver pair.

The MAX3465CPD+ operates over a wide supply voltage range from 2.5V to 5.5V. Its wide supply voltage range makes it suitable for an analog power supply or a battery-powered system. When enabled, the driver generates signals with a high output amplitude of 36mV to 95mV, depending on the supply voltage. The output common mode voltage of the driver is 5V±2.5V. This allows the driver to work with a wide range of receivers.

The MAX3465CPD+ also provides protection against transient overvoltages. It has a low capacitance of <1pF and a fast turn-on time of 4.4µs. This ensures that the driver and receiver are protected against overvoltages caused by transient faults on the bus, such as line spike, voltage sag, and short circuit.
