MAX366CPA is an integrated, robust, and versatile overvoltage protector designed for a wide range of consumer and industrial applications. The device is based on an innovative Mixed Technology architecture that combines trigger-protected Thyristor Surge Protection (TSP) capabilities with an Axial-Lead TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) diode array to ensure precision overvoltage protection. This approach enables the device to engage very quickly (within nanoseconds) and with extremely high accuracy while providing extremely low and consistent capacitance levels.

The MAX366CPA has a range voltage range of 4.5 to 24 volts and is designed to be overvoltage protected when the input voltage exceeds the protection thresholds. The device is aimed at consumer electronic and industrial applications such as power tools, lighting systems, motor control, and other applications which demand reliable input protection. It features a low current clamp (less than 1A peak pulse current) and minimum off state leakage to ensure the device does not interfere with normal signals.

The operating principle of the MAX366CPA is as follows. When an overvoltage occurs, the TSP triggers its thyristor circuitry, which allows the current to flow through the TVS diode array. This causes the TVS diode array to further reduce the voltage, until it reaches the clamping voltage, protecting the device from damage. As soon as the overvoltage passes, the thyristor will cut off the current, and the TVS diode array will reset to its normal state.

The MAX366CPA has low capacitance levels (less than 1.0pF), which ensures minimal signal interference or distortion. Additionally, it also has very low turn-on and turn-off times (under 50ns) guaranteeing fast and consistent response times. This makes the device ideal for applications where extremely fast response times are required.

The device also features a range of safety features, ensuring the highest levels of protection for your equipment. These features include overvoltage and overtemperature protection, short circuit protection, under voltage lockout, electrostatic discharge protection, as well as support for low impedance loads.
