The MAX3698CTJ+ is an ultra low jitter clock generator originally designed for applications with strict requirements for clock synchronization. The device has simple to complex jitter attenuation architectures and supports multiple outputs with the unique Phase Detector & Dividers (PD&D) architecture. Originally designed for telecom applications, the MAX3698CTJ+ is commonly used in other applications such as military, automotive and medical.
The MAX3698CTJ+ can be easily programmed to attenuate jitter across a wide range of applications. It provides a high degree of flexibility and scalability, allowing the user to choose between a wide range of options to best fit their application requirement. A variety of configurations are supported, including divide-by-n, dual divide-by-2, dual divide-by-4, and external reference synchronization. Additionally, the MAX3698CTJ+ includes two preset configurations for easy setup and adjustment.
The MAX3698CTJ+ features a hybrid design comprised of a digital oscillator, a 12-bit digital-to-analog converter, and an analog-to-digital converter for jitter suppression. On the output side, three phase-locked loops (PLLs) are employed for high performance jitter suppression and clock synchronization. The hybrid design enables the device to provide high accuracy timing and jitter control over a wide range of frequencies and configurations.
The MAX3698CTJ+ also features an optional phase shifter to improve clock synchronization and reduce phase errors. The phase shifter uses a phase lock loop (PLL) to generate a new reference clock. The phase shifter can be programmed to provide up to + 15 deg of shift in both directions, allowing the user to adjust the phase of the clock to better match the required application.
In addition to its excellent jitter attenuation and synchronization capabilities, the MAX3698CTJ+ provides a wide range of features to ensure reliability and scalability. The device has a high maximum operating temperature of 125° C and an operating temperature range from 0° C to 80° C. The temperature sensor allows the device to automatically adjust operating frequency as necessary.
The MAX3698CTJ+ also includes an integrated loop filter, allowing for automatic tuning of the PLLs for optimal performance. To reduce noise and EMI, the device features differential outputs and ground-referenced input/outputs, allowing for low-noise and EMI-immune operation. The device also includes internal monitoring and margin capabilities for improved reliability and diagnostics.
The MAX3698CTJ+ can be easily implemented with a wide range of microcontrollers and FPGAs, allowing the device to be used in various applications. With a wide operating temperature range, excellent timing accuracy, and high performance jitter suppression, the MAX3698CTJ+ is ideally suited for applications with stringent timing requirements.
