The MAX3766EEP is a versatile laser driver used in a variety of applications in the PMIC - Laser Driver family. It is a high performance, low power laser driver suitable for both continuous wave (CW) and pulsed laser applications. The device provides a wide input voltage range, up to 12V, allowing it to be used in a variety of laser diode and LED driver applications. In addition, its wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +85°C makes it ideal for use in extreme environment applications like automotive, military, and industrial applications.
The MAX3766EEP integrates an efficient power converter and low voltage HV tunneling device, allowing it to drive laser diodes, LEDs, and phototransistors. The device employs a high power buck-boost switching topology to drive the laser diode, featuring a proprietary high-efficiency, low-power-loss switcher design. It has a wide output current range of 1 mA to 5 A for driving laser diodes and LEDs, and a single supply voltage range of up to 12V for both laser diode and LED applications. In addition, the device has an adjustable current controller with a fast transient response and precise current setpoint accuracy to self-compensate for variations in temperature, laser diode and laser driver input/output parameters.
The MAX3766EEP is also equipped with a fault protection feature to protect the laser diode from excessive current. The device senses the laser current signal and provides accurate early trip points to protect the laser diode from over-current conditions. Additionally, the device has a built-in over-temperature protection feature that will turn off the device if the temperature goes beyond the specified temperature point. This helps ensure that the device and laser diode are protected from potential damaging conditions.
