Maxim Integrated’s MAX379CWG is an automotive-grade, SCAN-based 8:1 multiplexer / demultiplexer with guard-ring clamp diode protection that helps protect against resistor-divider related ESD damage. It is one of Maxim’s SCAN-based analog mux/demux products that feature fast, low-distortion switching, high-impedance outputs, and low power requirements.

The MAX379CWG is well-suited for distributed power architectures, where multiple analog and digital wavelengths are communicated over twisted-pair cables. On the analog side, the MAX379CWG can reduce the number of twisted-pair cables needed and speed up data acquisition or data transmission.

The MAX379CWG features two independent 8-channel analog multiplexers that can be configured as two 8:1 multiplexers or one 16:1 multiplexer. It also features two independent 8-channel demultiplexers that can be used in either direct demultiplexing or cross-coupled applications.

The MAX379CWG is composed of three main components: a guard-ring diode protection circuit, an active switching circuitry and an active clamp circuitry. The guard-ring diode protection circuit is composed of a low-power bipolar integrated circuit with a fast switching, low-distortion guard-ring clamp diode protection circuit. The active switching circuitry is provided to quickly switch between channels and help reduce voltage differences. The active clamp circuitry is used to help protect against resistor-divider related ESD damage.

The MAX379CWG provides exceptional performance with fast response, low distortion, and high-impedance outputs. It features a low gate capacitance and low VSWR between the digital and analog signals. It is designed to minimize distortion by providing independent input and output clamping and allows for both direct and cross-coupled operation. It also provides ESD protection of 8kV HBM and allows for low-power operation of 1.25V typ.

The MAX379CWG is designed to meet automotive environmental conditions. It features automotive-grade parts with a temperature range of -40°C to +125°C and is TS16949 and AEC-Q100 compliant. It is also RoHS-6 compliant.
