MAX3822UCM+ is a special purpose linear amplifier specifically designed to provide accurate gain control and high linearity for the 850nm version of the 802.3ah 10Gbps Ethernet physical layer (PHY). The linearity requirements of the 802.3ah PHY exceeds the ability of most linear amplifiers, and the MAX3822UCM+ delivers superior performance.The MAX3822UCM+ is constructed in a 48-pin quad flat no-lead (QFN) package, with a maximum operating temperature of 70°C. The device is powered by a single +3.3V power supply and provides excellent linearity performance with low power consumption at a frequency range of 250 MHz to 10.3GHz.The MAX3822UCM+ is optimized for immediate application in the 850nm optical transceiver modules used in 10G Ethernet applications. It provides a gain control range of -6 dB to +24 dB, a typical noise figure of 3.2 dB and a typical gain of 19 dB. It also provides excellent output power with modulation depths greater than 6 dB.The MAX3822UCM+ IC is built using an integrated bipolar junction transistor (BJT) based configuration. This type of design allows for a wide gain and linearity band over the entire operating frequency range. The BJTbased design also creates a low noise figure due to the internal biasing.The MAX3822UCM+ also incorporates a built-in automatic gain control (AGC) circuit. This feature allows for accurate gain control over the entire range of gain adjustments. It ensures that the maximum output power is maintained over all gain settings, while also providing a large dynamic range. This feature helps to avoid large signal distortions and reduce the need for manual gain adjustments.The MAX3822UCM+ also has an integrated digital interface which enables easy and accurate programming of the amplifier’s gain, as well as the ability to monitor the amplifier’s gain and other performance parameters.
