The MAX38801EVKIT# is a full-featured evaluation kit for the MAX38801 series of advanced single-output DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS controllers. It provides quick and easy implementation of the features and benefits of the DC/DC and AC/DC SMPS controllers. The kit includes all necessary components and a user-friendly GUI to enable customization of all parameters for the evaluation of the MAX38801 series devices. The MAX38801EVKIT# evaluation board includes a complete schematic, bill of materials, and detailed user manual. All necessary hardware is included in the kit.

The MAX38801 series of power switch controllers provide precision measurement of the output voltage or current and provide advanced control algorithms to deliver optimal energy efficiency over a wide load range. The controller provides easy-to-use power monitoring and control functions PC via I2C or USB. It also provides an efficient AC/DC power solution for lighting, machine control, industrial automation, and other industrial applications.

The MAX38801 series employs an advanced topology to provide a low-cost, high-efficiency solution for advanced electronic control systems. It also enables the user to realize significant reduction in component count and board space requirements. The controller works in accordance with a Device Control Register (DCR) that allows the user to control different parameters such as switching frequency, maximum current level, voltage margining, and output voltage range. The design utilizes a look-up table (LUT) to generate an optimized switching frequency and a voltage error amplifier to ensure a tightly regulated voltage.

The advanced control algorithms support an adjustable minimum on-time and variable frequency limitation.
