The MAX5478ETE+T is a part of the family of Digital Potentiometers classified under Data Acquisition. This component is a dual-channel, low-power, nonvolatile (EEPROM-based) potentiometer which consists of a resistor array and EEPROM memory for saving and cycling through the programmed position or “tap” points that correspond to user-defined positions in the resistor array. It is designed to offer a smoother and finer adjustment of resistance values and transfer characteristics that are not limited to a fixed, several-step progression.The MAX5478ETE+T can be used in data signal chains that require direct-digital adjustment or monitoring, as well as in audio signal chains for signal conditioning and tone control. Moreover, it can also be used for position and Sensitivity adjustments in controllers and transducers.This Digital Potentiometer works off of a low-voltage CMOS supply voltage, ranging from 1.8 V to 5.5V, and with an I/O interface that allows it to be directly interfaced with a standard microcontroller with logic levels. With a wide wiper and resistance range of 10kΩ - 10kΩ, it is excellent for voltage and current correction.The MAX5478ETE+T continuously maintains the control value in a nonvolatile memory. Even in the event of power distribution abnormality, the setting value is retained in the memory. Furthermore, it is highly accurate with a low-temperature coefficient of temperature drift and temperature coefficient of resistance, operating temperature of up to 125°C, and excellent linearity.The MAX5478ETE+T is supported by an extensive software driver library and offers a number of features such as automatic power-down control, push-button programming, EEPROM-based wiper lock capabilities, serial data soft control loads and dynamic wiper positions.Its storage capacity is implemented in a 2-wire or 3-wire serial interface that allows for control over the potentiometer via a command-driven protocol. This protocol consists of a reset command, write and read commands and then allows the simplification of direct digital potentiometer control.The write commands allow the wiper position to be set and the read commands allow the wiper position to be read directly. The reset command sets the wiper position to a predetermined position, whereas the write and read commands adjust the wiper position between two endpoints.The MAX5478ETE+T provides an excellent combination of low power consumption and stability with linearity. Its highly accurate characteristics make it excellent for use in audio signal chains, data signal chains, position and Sensitivity adjustments in controllers and transducers and a range of other applications.
