The MAX5911ESA+T is a Hot Swap controller for PMIC (Power Management IC). This Hot Swap controller has one of the highest power rating available in the industry and is a single chip solution for protecting electronic boards from inrush current and other issues when devices are powered up or hot plugged. It also provides preventative measures for short circuit protection.

The Hot Swap controller performs out of range capacitance and voltage monitors, reverse current protection and monitoring of power up signal. It also provides two low voltage channels and one high voltage channel. It delivers up to 170 V at 5.5 A and has a wide input voltage range. The MAX5911ESA+T is available in two versions with their own special features, depending on the application.

The working principle of the MAX5911ESA+T rests on the fact that it is designed to protect the board from inrush current and over power conditions. To do this it incorporates an integrated output transistor, which is connected in series with the board power supply.
