Additionally, the voltage regulator isequipped with a process-corrected architecture, where the all of thecomponents inside the integrated circuit are precision temperature compensated, so that the output voltage remains accurate across all operationaltemperature ranges from -25 to +85°C.
The MAX662ACSA+T is commonly used to drive and regulate the voltage of loads such as DSPs, SRAMs, ASICs, and microprocessors. It can also be used to provide a regulated voltage output for servo motioncontrollers, or motor control applications. By efficiently drawing an input voltage from a low-cost single source, the MAX662ACSA+T is able to reduce the component count of voltage regulator designs. This results in compact and cost-effective switching power supplies and ensures optimal efficiency, compared to discrete solutions.
At the centre of the MAX662ACSA+T switch regulator is a voltage mode controlled oscillator, which uses pulse width modulation to generate a variable duty cycle signal. The duty cycle is proportional to the voltage drop across a pair of resistors, which are connected between the output voltage and the feedback voltage. The MOSFET switch is independently controlled, with an overcurrent protection circuit including a comparator and reference voltage, a voltage level shifter, and a power good indicator. The current limit circuit further ensures that the output current does not exceed the maximum limit. In most current limit applications, the voltage drop across a current sense resistor is monitored and compared to a voltage reference, if the voltage drop exceeds the reference voltage, the error amplifier output turns off the PWM oscillator, thus turning off the switch and limiting the output current.
