A PMIC-Supervisor, or Power Management IC (PMIC) is a sophisticated integrated circuit designed to manage and control the power functions of a device. It also manages the power system when running under a variety of conditions, such as thermal shutdown. The MAX815KEPA+ PMIC-Supervisor has an advanced reset core with 3 reset outputs, 2 of them (RESET and RESETB) being active-low signals, obtained with a regulator voltage monitoring circuit and an internal voltage detector cascaded with a reset delay circuit. These outputs are used for resetting the microcontrollers and can operate a reset system through the single RESET pin. The third output is a watchdog timer reset output, which can detect any abnormal behavior in the microcontroller and reset the system in order to correct any potential issue.

The MAX815KEPA+ PMIC-Supervisor is powered by a 5.5V to 12V input and has dual output regulators with a low 22μA quiescent current. This IC is capable of delivering up to 600mA in each of its two outputs, with an output voltage adjustable from 0.9v to 3.3v. This regulator also provides detection of over-temperature and over-voltage. Additionally, it has a 0.9v output voltage option which is supposed to prolong battery life.

The second regulator operates from the 3.3V input and is designed to generate precise output voltages. Its output voltage is adjustable from 1.2V to 3.6V by a single resistor, providing precise voltage levels for microprocessor and other DSPs. This regulator can deliver up to 300mA and operates with a low quiescent current of 0.9µA.

The MAX815KEPA+ PMIC-Supervisor includes a precise voltage threshold detection circuit that monitors the power supply level and signals an active-low output when the power supply voltage drops below the user-defined threshold. The shift register based power-on reset circuit controls the power on/off sequence and is used to ensure the power on/off reset signal is issued in the right time. Additionally, in order to avoid noise, the reset signal can be filtered by a delay circuit.
