MAX8559ETADK+T Application Field and Working Principle

The MAX8559ETADK+, T is a versatile linear voltage regulator from the MAX8559 family of Power Management ICs (PMIC). Driven by meticulous engineering and advanced manufacturing techniques, these low-power, high-precision 3-A regulators are designed to meet the performance requirements of modern distributed power architectures, which always drive OEMs to seek the best solution while meeting cost-savings and efficiency goals. This product is an integrated circuit designed to deliver an extremely precise, low noise output voltage, while converting energy from one source to another.The MAX8559ETADK+, T offers excellent regulation accuracy of ±1% over temperature and line, with a low output voltage noise (rms over 0.2Hz to 10Hz frequency range) of 5mV for 3.3V output. It operates over an input voltage range of 1.5V to 20V, with an output voltage range from 0.6V to 7V, in 0.1V increments. It is capable of delivering up to 3A of output current, with a 95 mΩ power MOSFET for better efficiency at light loads. Furthermore, the device contains other features, such as an external adjustment pin (for output voltage adjustments from 0.6V to 7.3V), thermal shutdown, an input reverse-battery protection, and ESD protection.The MAX8559ETADK+, T is ideal for distributed power applications across various industries, such as consumer, communications, industrial and automotive, needing high precision, low noise and low power consumption. The device is qualified for the Industrial (-40°C to +125°C) and Automotive AEC-Q100 Grade 1 temperature range.The application field and working principle of this device can be used in a variety of industrial systems and car batteries. The MAX8559ETADK+ is a CMOS-based linear regulator designed to regulate a wide variety of input voltages. When the input voltage exceeds the reference voltage, the PMIC starts regulating the output voltage by changing the duty cycle of the output power MOSFET. The MAX8559ETADK+ includes an internal pre-driver for driving a power MOSFET, providing a very fast transient response to input voltage variations. This allows for precise regulation even at high output load current demands.The MAX8559ETADK+ is a high efficiency linear regulator that allows for very low noise operation. Its switching frequency is determined by the input voltage and output current, enabling low output voltage noise of only 5mV RMS when supplying up to 3 A. The pre-driver technology supports a very fast transient response, meaning that the output voltage is more stable under sudden changes in load current.The power consumption of the MAX8559ETADK+ is relatively low for its current output capability. The device can support up to a 95 mΩ MOSFET for better efficiency even at light loads, thus an extremely low dropout voltage is achievable. The device is also highly efficient in dropout, with no more than an average of 0.3A quiescent current. The MAX8559ETADK+ is an ideal solution for distributed power architectures that require a low noise, high efficiency and robust voltage regulator. Its features make it suitable for a wide variety of applications, from consumer, communications, industrial and automotive, to the extended automotive temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.
