The MAX882ESA is an active low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator with shutdown functionality. Working Principle

The MAX882ESA employs an active low-dropout (LDO) linear regulator topology to provide a regulated output voltage. The output voltage is regulated by the following two control loops.

The error amplifier compares the output voltage to an internal reference voltage and produces an output signal proportional to the difference between the two. This output signal is then used to drive a P-FET, which in turn controls the output voltage.

The second control loop ensures that the output voltage does not fall below the minimum drop-out voltage. This loop has a voltage monitor circuit and an output MOSFET, which both ensure that the output voltage does not fall below the minimum drop-out voltage.

The MAX882ESA also features a shutdown pin, which when activated, shuts down the device and reduces the supply current to an extremely low level. This makes the MAX882ESA an ideal choice for portable applications that require very low power consumption.
