Linear Voltage Regulators (LDOs) offer superior performance when compared to Switching Regulators. MAX8869EUE33+T is an Ultra-Low-Dropout (ULDO) Linear Voltage Regulator that offers the highest performance and flexibility for voltage regulation and is ideal for powering both low dropout and high current regulated voltage applications. MAX8869EUE33+T offers a wide range of output voltages from 0.6V to 5.5V, a maximum output current of 1A and a wide input voltage range from 1.6V to 5.5V. The Regulator also features a low quiescent current of only 25µA and an adjustable-regulative temperature range of 0°C to +85°C.
MAX8869EUE33+T can be used in a wide range of applications and with various configurations. It can be used in battery-powered and low power systems, where the input source can be one or two alkaline, NiCd, NiMH or Li-Ion batteries. It can also be used to power microcontroller or logic systems, or used as a low voltage output regulator for higher current load applications. Additionally, it can be also used in FPGA/DSP circuits and automotive applications, given its wide input and output voltage range.
The working principle of the MAX8869EUE33+T relies on the output signal from a Voltage Reference. The signal is then compared to the desired output voltage, and a difference signal is used to control a PNP transistor that is connected in series with the output voltage. This PNP transistor then adjusts its output current, depending on the difference signal. An Internal Proportional Integral (PI) compensator recursively drives the output voltage error to zero and regulates the output voltage.
