MCP19110-E/MJ voltage regulators are a range of high performance, switch mode, DC-to-DC controllers used in a variety of applications. The family provides products for both low voltage and wide input voltage sources, with current rating from 400mA to 3A. The primary features of MCP19110-E/MJ are: a unique Spread Spectrum Frequency Mode (SSFM) which dramatically reduces EMI/RFI noise emissions, an integrated and configurable sync input/output, active voltage position (AVP) power supply sequencing, and integrated programmable safety timers. The MCP19110-E/MJ also supports both analog (gain, offset and derivative time) and digital compensation of inductor current, as well as digital protection features.MCP19110-E/MJ voltage regulators are suitable for a variety of applications, including the mobile and smart phone, automotive and industrial markets. The MCP19110-E/MJ is ideally suited for systems powered from a wide battery voltage range. It features a wide input voltage range (2.5V - 28V) and is capable of operating from a single, low-voltage supply. The high switching frequency (up to 2MHz) of the controller helps to reduce the size of the external components and provides for excellent transient response.In addition, the MCP19110-E/MJ provides programmable protection features, such as overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature, that provide the system designer with peace of mind while ensuring the robustness and reliability of their systems.The MCP19110-E/MJ voltage regulator consists of two main blocks: the Control Circuit (CC) and the Power Circuit (PC). The Control Circuit regulates and monitors the output voltage, while the Power Circuit is responsible for the active switching of output current. The CC is composed of a reference voltage source, comparators, and logic circuits, while the PC is composed of the drive circuits, power MOSFETs, and slew rate control circuits.The output voltage of the MCP19110-E/MJ is regulated by the control loop. The error amplifier compares the sampled output voltage to the reference voltage generated by the reference circuit. When the two voltages are unbalanced, the output of the error amplifier is used to update the duty cycle of the power circuit. The error amplifier also drives the voltage position pin (VMON/AVP) which can be used as a voltage monitor or to provide power supply sequencing.The power circuit is composed of basic buck, boost, or buck-boost switching topologies. The MCP19110-E/MJ offers a comprehensive power circuit design that provides reliable operation over a wide output voltage range. The power circuit also supports synchronous rectification, Spread Spectrum Frequency Modulation (SSFM) and MOSFET current-mode control.The MCP19110-E/MJ provides robust system protection features including overvoltage protection (OVP), undervoltage protection (UVP), overtemperature protection (OTP), and overcurrent protection (OCP). The OVP and UVP limits are factory programmed and adjustable via I2C digital interface. The OCP protection is adjustable to set the required OCP level and is supported by either the RDSon sense or Current sense capabilities. The OTP limit can be changed through the I2C digital interface or through a hardware control pin.The MCP19110-E/MJ also features a unique Spread Spectrum Frequency Modulation (SSFM) that reduces EMI/RFI noise emissions. The SSFM feature modulates the switching frequency to reduce the EMI noise generated by the switching power supply. This feature is enabled through a digital interface and does not require any additional external components.The MCP19110-E/MJ is an ideal solution for many high-performance, low-cost DC-to-DC conversion applications. The MCP19110-E/MJ provides a great combination of features and performance in a small footprint. Its integrated protection features, high efficiency, small size, and competitive cost make it one of the top choices for many power conversion applications.
