The MIC1232M-TR is a supervisor integrated circuit (IC) produced by the MICREL Company, and one of the five members of the MIC1232 Supervisory Chip families. As part of its ‘Supervisor’ PMIC family, the MIC1232M-TR supervisor is specifically designed to monitor digital systems in highly resource-constrained applications. It holds an array of features, making it one of the most versatile supervisors available on the market. The most significant features it offers include 2 fixed/adjustable reset outputs, 2 fixed/adjustable reset with timeout (RTO) outputs, single universal voltage reset input, low-battery detector with an adjustable voltage detector, a 4.2-V pre-trip detector and a 4.7-V pre-trip detector. It also features an integrated reset delay time-out circuit, a shutdown active-low reset and a power-on reset active-low output. All features are programmable and adjustable via the I2C digital interface. The MIC1232M-TR incorporates several unique technologies to ensure reliability and accurate timing in every situation. These are divided into two main components. Firstly, integrated flip-flop circuitry is used to monitor the reset pins, allowing the MIC1232M-TR to quickly detect and respond to unexpected power fluctuations or drops. Secondly, it utilizes sophisticated reset timing components, so that reset demands are relayed quickly and effectively, eliminating any potential system malfunctions or issues.The primary application field for the MIC1232M-TR is in embedded systems, such as hand-held communication devices, audio systems and PC motherboards. Its multiple fixed/adjustable reset/RTO pins, can be used as reset sources in order to ensure that the system’s components are functioning properly during each and every power cycle.The MIC1232M-TR’s reset and power-on reset pins can be configured to generate reset, RTO, or power-on reset outputs. This is accomplished by programming the universal voltage reset input, and turning it into one of the reset/RTO/power-on reset pins. This can be done through the I2C bus as mentioned, allowing for flexibility when programming the IC to fit a specific application.Furthermore, the MIC1232M-TR is also a low-voltage supervisor. This means it has an array of adjustable voltage detection pins, so that it can detect when the voltage reaching the system has dropped below a certain level, and then generate appropriate reset outputs. This ensures the system does not work at dangerously low levels of power, thus preventing serious damage. Finally, the MIC1232M-TR is also equipped with a low-battery detector. This detector is used to detect when the system is running on batteries, and initiate an appropriate output level. As mentioned before, the MIC1232M-TR’s voltage detection pins are programmable, and can be adjusted according to the application.
