The MIC2164-2YMM-TR is a DC to DC controller that helps users regulate their voltage. Specifically, the MIC2164-2YMM-TR can be used to convert battery-supplied, low voltage input power sources into one or two output channels of regulated, step-down voltage while maintaining high efficiency and excellent accuracy. Working principle
The MIC2164-2YMM-TR utilizes a novel architecture that combines much of the protection and control features and functions of conventional Microcontroller Unit (MCU)-based devices into a single integrated circuit. It is based on a Fixed Frequency Peak Current Mode Control Converter that operates at 200KHz, providing excellent output current accuracy and efficiency with a minimal amount of external components. The MIC2164-2YMM-TR also integrates two foldback sense FETs, two 100nF output capacitors, two parallel capacitors to reduce total output capacitance, and two input capacitors on the input and output.
To ensure consistent performance, the MIC2164-2YMM-TR contains a high-precision voltage reference, a low-drift comparator, a wide-range low-power MOSFET driver, a fault detection circuit, an array of control logic, an over-current protector, an over-temperature detector, and four resistor-programmable current sense resistors. These components work together to provide high-performance current control at a wide range of operating conditions.
The MIC2164-2YMM-TR also features a number of safety and protection features, including internal Undervoltage Lockout (UVLO) with hysteresis and thermal foldback protection. The thermal foldback feature cuts off the current delivery to the output when the die temperature exceeds a certain point, protecting the device and the load against any over-temperature situations. The device also includes Overvoltage, Undervoltage, Overcurrent, and Thermal Shut Down (TSD) protection as well as Reverse Current and Reverse Voltage protection.
