The MIC2583-KYQS is a Hot Swap Controller (PMIC) containing a high-side power FET, an analog front-end, and a programmable precision current limit. Designed for high-side, low-side, and dual Hot Swap applications, the MIC2583-KYQS enables high efficiency systems where hot insertion, hot removal, and current/voltage protection is required. The integrated analog front-end provides a programmable current limit, current monitor output, and thermal warning. The MIC2583-KYQS also includes a 10-bit DAC to set current limit, short-circuit protection timer, and programmable overtemperature latch-off. The MIC2583-KYQS allows up to 6V with 0.25A to 50mA of load current that can be used in a wide range of applications, such as industrial motor control, medical equipment, HVAC, home automation, sensors, telecommunications, automotive, and consumer applications.
The MIC2583-KYQS Hot Swap Controller features a simple and robust design with full protection functions. It utilizes a shunt current sense circuit, temperature measurements, and a temperature accuracy of ±1°C. With a built-in thermal warning output, the MIC2583-KYQS is suitable for Hot Swap applications with high current loads such as motor control and medical equipment. It also features an adjustable current limit that is easily adjustable with a programmable DAC.
The MIC2583-KYQS contains a high-side power FET with an adjustable current limit for Hot Swap applications. The current limit is adjustable by the external DAC output. Once the device is activated, the current passes through the external shunt and is monitored. When the current exceeds the user-defined limit, the power FET is disabled and the outputs are held low. This protects against overcurrent events, allowing for improved system reliability and safety.
The MIC2583-KYQS is also equipped with a programmable overtemperature latch-off, thermal warning output, and various voltage step settings. The voltage step settings allow the user to select a set of voltages at which the Hot Swap circuitry is activated, allowing more control over powering up marginal loads. The thermal protection feature allows the device to shut down the power in case of an overtemperature event, preventing further damage to the system.
The MIC2583-KYQS also has an integrated analog front-end that features a programmable current limit, current monitor output, and thermal warning output. The programmable current limit allows the user to easily adjust the current limit of the power FET in order to protect against short circuit and current overload events. The current monitor output provides an analog signal proportional to the load current, allowing for accurate current monitoring and power control. The thermal warning output signals when the load current and temperature rises beyond the designated safety levels.
The MIC2583-KYQS Hot Swap Controller is ideal for applications that require high voltage Hot Swap protection as well as adjustable current and temperature protection. With its wide voltage range, programmable DAC, and temperature accuracy, the MIC2583-KYQS is an ideal solution for applications with high current loads, such as motor control and medical equipment.
