The MIC2210-GSBML is a low-noise, high-current, low-dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator designed specifically for post-DC/DC regulation use in servers, storage, and cloud computing applications. With its low quiescent current, the MIC2210-GSBML enables lower on-state power dissipation, reduced system noise, and improved system stability through better regulation and control. The power supply system featuring the MIC2210-GSBML also supports lower total system cost by eliminating the need for external high voltage capacitors. The MIC2210-GSBML is designed to provide 2A of continuous output current and can be used to post-regulate the variable voltage output from DC/DC converters, providing clean, low noise, and tightly regulated output at voltages from 0.6V to 5.5V. A power-good (PG) output signal provides status feedback of the output voltage condition, and an output voltage adjust pin allows the user to fine-tune the output voltage.The MIC2210-GSBML is a low-dropout linear regulator and requires an input-to-output differential of at least 0.7V for normal operation. This voltage differential is important in regulating the output voltage, since the output voltage is approximately equal to the regulator input voltage minus 0.7V.This voltage differential and the low quiescent current of the MIC2210-GSBML enable the regulator to provide clean and accurate output voltage without the need for high voltage external capacitors. The linear operation of the MIC2210-GSBML means that it can function at much lower operating supply voltages than switching regulators, which require a minimum voltage difference of approximately 0.8V to 1V between the input and output voltage to stay in regulation. This makes the MIC2210-GSBML well suited to systems with limited power reserve, such as embedded cellular devices and handheld medical products where regulation must be maintained at minimum input and output voltages.The MIC2210-GSBML also features a low output noise level of 24uVrms and a very high output PSRR of 90dB, which makes it ideal for applications that require clean, low-noise power supplies such as communications, audio, and automotive systems. The device also features excellent transient performance, providing fast load transient response and excellent line transient response.The MIC2210-GSBML is available in SOT-23-5 and SON-8 packages, and is rated over the extended -40°C to +125°C temperature range.
