Working Principle

The MIC2211-FQBML-TR is based on a low-noise linear voltage regulator topology and is capable of delivering up to 800 mA of output current with a low dropout voltage of 0.1 V. The device is a monolithic integrated circuit that is composed of a main internal volt regulator, a MOSFET switch, a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator, control logic, an on/off control pin, and an enable/disable protection pin. The enable/disable protection pin offers the system the ability to enable and disable the regulator in order to prevent the system from over-loading the battery in the event of a short circuit or open circuit. The main voltage regulator is used to set the output voltage. It consists of an on-chip high-speed MOSFET switch and a low dropout (LDO) linear regulator. The switch is controlled by the digital control logic, which holds it “on” until the output voltage drops below the regulation point. When the voltage drops, the switch turns off and the MOSFET turns on, drawing more current from the input. The LDO regulator then regulates the voltage by monitoring the output voltage and controlling the current flow in the MOSFET. The device also has an on/off control pin that provides the system with an easy way to disable the regulator if needed. By tying the on/off pin to the ground, the regulator will be disabled and the output voltage will be floating. This will help the system conserve power by disabling the regulator when the system is in low power mode or when the device is not used.
