Working Principle

The MIC2213-GNBML-TR is a 3-pin low quiescent current linear regulator. Its output voltage is determined by an external resistor divider connected to the Output Voltage Adjust (VOADJ) pin and the Adj. Input (ADJIN) pin. Its input voltage is applied to the Input Voltage (VIN) pin, and the regulated output voltage is available at Output Voltage (VOUT) pin. The device includes an internal N-MOSFET switch, and an internal error amplifier which maintain the output voltage. The load current is supplied through the pass transistor while keeping the output voltage regulated.

The device has several protection features: current limit and thermal shutdown. When the total power dissipation of the pass transistor exceeds the power dissipation rating of the package, the Thermal ShutDown (TSD) protection feature will shutoff the pass transistor to prevent it from damaging itself. The Current Limit (CL) protection feature limits the output current to protect the device against a short circuit.

The MIC2213-GNBML-TR is a precision adjustable low dropout linear regulator. It usually operates off a higher voltage source and can deliver up to a full 1A of load current with an input voltage of only 1.2V above the output voltage and a dropout voltage of only 200mV.
