The MIC5190BMM-TR voltage linear regulator controller is a high-efficiency device used in applications where peak efficiency is requested. It uses a “floating headroom” concept that significantly reduces power losses in response to load changes, resulting in higher efficiency when compared to other linear regulators. Additionally, the MIC5190BMM-TR features a unique spread spectrum modulation feature that minimizes system electromagnetic interference (EMI), allowing it to meet stringent EMI requirements.The MIC5190BMM-TR linear regulator controller is mainly used in 5V and 3.3V power systems for general-purpose applications, sub-notebook computers, high-end servers, telecommunication devices, IT equipment, industrial control and instrumentation products. It can output 600mA of current and provide peak efficiencies as high as 92%.The main components of the MIC5190BMM-TR are a power input, the regulator IC itself, a coordinator, an on-off monitor with lossless current sensing and a feedback circuit. The controller uses a dual rail voltage to drive the regulator IC. The coordinator senses the input rail and turns on the IC in response to a low voltage at the output. The on-off monitor provides an overvoltage, overcurrent, and open-loop protection as well as a lossless current sense feature. The feedback circuit is responsible for adjusting the output voltage and providing a feedback loop, while the regulator IC controls the output voltage to maintain the set voltage.The MIC5190BMM-TR linear regulator controller involves two stages: a voltage step-up circuit and a voltage step-down circuit.
