The MIC5205-5.0BM5-TR is designed for extremely low current applications and is also suitable for powering microprocessors, digital signal processors and local buses termineals. It is capable of operating with a voltage range of 4V up to 5.5V and is ideal for any voltage regulator applications that require low power dissipation. For example, control systems, digital cameras, digital video recorders and other electronic devices.The regulator provides adjustable current limiting as standard so it is suitable for driving a wide range of loads, from 0.5mA to 5.5mA in open-loop mode. The MIC5205-5.0BM5-TR is also able to deliver a maximum of 9.4mV output voltage overheads when operating from 4.0V to 5.5V supplies. Moreover, the MIC5205-5.0BM5-TR includes over temperature protection circuitry and is available in TSOP-5 and DFN-5 packages.Working Principle
The MIC5205-5.0BM5-TR is an ultra low dropout three-terminal voltage regulator with a maximum input voltage of 5.5V and a minimum of 4V. It consists of an adjustable output reference voltage, an error amplifier, a pass transistor with over temperature protection.The error amplifier uses the output voltage of the device as the non-inverting input such that when the desired output voltage is reached, the amplifier triggers the pass transistor and feeds current to the output. The output reference voltage is adjustable by setting the voltage between the adjust terminal and ground. This allows the same output voltage from various input supply voltages.The MIC5205-5.0BM5-TR has over temperature protection built into it to ensure safe operation even when used under extreme conditions. The regulator is capable of providing a maximum of 5.5mA current to the load and has low noise characteristics.Conclusion
