Working Principle

MMA1250KEG accelerometer utilizes Thermal Analysis (TA) technology, which is based on mass balance. It features a diaphragm and proof-mass, made up of electrostatic actuators. The output is provided by measuring the position of the proof-mass relative to the diaphragm, and is then digitized and converted into an acceleration rate. The TA methodology also allows for the acceleration rate to be monitored in all three axes (X, Y and Z).

In this particular accelerometer, an internal oscillator within the diaphragm assists in transferring and measuring data signals. When the device is exposed to external motion, the proof mass can move relative to the diaphragm. This, in turn, shifts the frequencies being measured. As a result, feedback signals are created which measure and indicate the motion.
