Working Principle

The accelerometer consists of a sensing element that responds to changes in linear acceleration, usually in three axis directions. The sensing element in this device consists of a capacitive MEMS device. It is a silicon element that is sensitive to changes in acceleration, gravity and rotational movement. When there is no acceleration, the elements remain in balance and do not move. When an acceleration is applied, the device experiences a force that is proportional to the magnitude of the acceleration. This force causes the device to flex, resulting in a change in the capacitance of the device. This change in capacitance is measured to determine the magnitude of the acceleration.

The digital output of the accelerometer is based on a series of digital signal processing algorithms that read the changes in capacitance. This data is then converted into the actual acceleration measured along each axis. The accelerometer provides digital output with a resolution of Plus or Minus 16g and an accuracy of +/-5%, which makes it suitable for a wide range of applications.
