In general, when reverse bias voltage is applied to a Varicap diode, its junction capacitance increases. This principle is used to control the frequency and bandwidth of an oscillator. The MMBV2109LT1 has an operating voltage of up to 3V, with a maximum capacitance variation of 8.6 pF when biased at this voltage.The RF signal at the input of the device is modulated in response to the variation of bias voltage, which also changes the capacitance. The MMBV2109LT1 can detect small changes in capacitance by monitoring the current flowing through the diode. The working of this device can be illustrated as follows: When reverse voltage is applied, the depletion width of a diode increases and the capacitance decreases. When adjustable voltage is applied, the capacitance varies.
