The MP4KE20A is a multi-channel unidirectional transient voltage suppressor (TVS), developed for transient over-voltage protection of low speed data lines. It consist of four independent low-capacitance unidirectional DFN packages. This product offers common mode and different mode protection. Common mode protection is offered across four channels while different mode is offered between two channels. It is designed with guard rings for enhanced ESD protection and reduce ringing. It is a reinforced ESD protection device that can withstand up to 25 KV (HBM ESD testing). With electro-static discharge (ESD) ratings greater than 25KV, this product family provides an enhanced level of protection.
The MP4KE20A is intended to protect low-speed, logic lines, such as I2C, SPI, UART, USB, SDI, LVDS, and others. It is optimized to protect high sensitivity digital components against damaging ESD and other over-voltage transient events. It is suitable for any applications such as automotive, consumer electronics, industrial, or any other electronic device subject to ESD and over-voltage transient events. The device maintains very low capacitance across the channel (Cd = 0.7 pF), which is ideal for applications requiring data transmission at high data rate.
The working principle of the MP4KE20A is simple; it contains two different types of transistors in the form of an integrated circuit. When a transient voltage event occurs, such as an ESD strike or a power surge, the circuit turns on, supplying the necessary power to temporarily short-circuit and dissipate the goal of the over-voltage to ground. The transistor junctions are designed to withstand the over-voltage condition, thus ensuring channel protection. When the transient voltage event has been eliminated, the junctions turn off, and the device returns to its original state. The device is also designed to block reverse current, providing an effective shield against the damage from line reversal.
