The MP4KE75CA is a Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diode device, which can be used to protect electronics in a number of different applications. The MP4KE75CA is a uni-directional diode device, which users a silicon oxide layer between two layers of heavily doped epi-material. The two epi layers form a rectifying junction which acts as a rectifier\'s forward biased diode. A resistor is connected in series between the rectifying junction and the epi layer, which together comprise the entire package. This allows the device to be used for providing surge protection.When the device is subjected to a voltage greater than the breakdown voltage of the diode, the silicon oxide layer breaks down and the current reaches the resistance layer which allows current to be conducted. In this way, the device absorbs all the excess energy from the surge and dissipates it safely.Applications
The MP4KE75CA devices can be used in many different applications. It is particularly applicable for applications with power distribution or high voltage circuits, such as automotive, industrial and energy sectors, etc. The device can also be used in high speed digital systems in which it assists in the protection of data lines from electrostatic discharge, voltage transients, and voltage spikes.Working Principle
The MP4KE75CA has a double-plate varistor construction that also functions as a diode. Its basic workings is that when a voltage greater than the breakdown point is applied, the silicon oxide layer breaks down, allowing the voltage to flow and, at the same time, activating the diode.When the voltage is below the breakdown threshold, the diode will not conduct and blocks any current. As the Voltage increases, the current flowing through the device is limited by the printed resistor that is connected to the diode and the limiting resistor is determined by V = IR, where R is the resistance value printed on the device.
