Working Principles of MPSA06,116

The MPSA06,116 is a PNP type, bipolar junction transistor. Its operation is based on the principle of negative resistance.

When a current is applied to the base of the transistor, it allows current to flow between the emitter and collector. This current will cause the voltage drop across the base junction. This voltage drop is negative and the transistor will react by increasing the emitter current. This increase in the emitter current will cause the collector current to increase.

The base–emitter junction is a PN junction. When forward biased, the voltage across this junction is decreased, which increases the current flow and the transistor is then in forward active mode. To turn off the transistor, the value of voltage across the base–emitter junction is turned to a negative value, which turns the transistor off.
